Apologies from your humble reporter. I managed to miss completely reporting on the OSU-Northwestern game and am late with the comments on the OSU-Illinois game. It's been a busy couple of weeks. However, we are now back at the desk and ready to bring everyone up to date.

Let's start with the Northwestern game. NU is normally that extra team in the Big Ten that some have suggested should really find some other group to play with. However, this year they were one of the ranked teams that our Buckeyes played. Best not to look past them. And our guys didn't. The resulting thumping reestablished the Buckeyes as a true contender for a good bowl game.

Not only that, but Penn State managed to stumble against the University of Iowa making the race for the Big Ten championship a dead heat once again with OSU, Penn State and Michigan State all with one conference loss. And, Penn State and Michigan State meet in the final game of the season at Happy Valley. It will take an MSU win to send our Buckeyes to the Rose Bowl.

This past weekend saw the Bucks take on Illinois. Though unranked, Illinois always seems to give our team problems. The first quarter looked like it would be more of the same. Then the Buckeyes broke out with 14 unanswered points in the second quarter and the rest of the game was simply a matter of waiting for the final gun. Beanie Wells and Terrelle Pryor both had over 100 yards rushing.

So, that brings us to the final game of the season - THE GAME. With the team from up north falling on hard times this season, the anticipation isn't what it normally is. However, the Bucks really need to win this contest for a share of the Big Ten title and a chance at a high end (BCS) bowl game. (Preview)

An Open Letter from the Rapport's
Tim,

I am writing to you, and hope that you will share my email with the gathering of OSU Alumni and fans when you meet to watch the big game on Saturday.  Our daughter, Rebecca, was the recipient of the Pikes Peak Scholarship awarded to her as she was beginning her freshman year as a Buckeye.  I know that she wrote to you early in the quarter, but I want to give you a little update so that the contributors to the scholarship fund realize that their money is going directly to support a new Buckeye and how much it helps.

Rebecca is rounding the corner towards the end of her first quarter, and this will be her first OSU v. Michigan game when she sits among her fellow students in Horseshoe on Saturday.  She is doing very well academically, and she is learning something new about OSU every week - new ways to get around campus, different places to eat, better times to go to RPAC to workout, where to get printer cartridges, etc. She has also learned that the sun shines more days in Colorado and that 30 degrees here in Denver is not the same as a cold, wet 30 degrees in Columbus.

The support you have provided to Rebecca through the Pikes Peak Scholarship is most appreciated by her and by us (her parents).  I hope you will be successful in meeting your scholarship fund goals for this year so that other students from Colorado will have the support of the Pikes Peak Alumni when they head off to OSU next fall.

Thanks and GO BUCKS!

Celebrating a Goal

The OSU men's ice hockey team visited Denver to take on the #2 DU Pioneers for two games on October 24 and 25. The Friday evening matchup saw OSU fall to the Pioneers. However, Saturday's contest had the Buckeyes in the winner's position

Some of the group made the drive north to view the Friday game in person. Even in a losing effort the trip was well worth the effort. We received a very nice thank you from the coach for our support of the team

3rd Annual Summer Picnic - August 2, 2008

The weather was hot and sunny for the 3rd annual Pikes Peak Buckeyes summer picnic. We met at the big pavillion, south of the Mesa Road parking lot, at Monument Valley Park.  There were wings donated by Eric at BW3 and a celebratory cake for everyone to share.

<>The afternoon was wonderful with great talk with fellow Buckeyes! (August 19, 2008)
